This past weekend I spent a few days at the ocean to get quiet with God, read, reflect and ponder about current life questions. After 3 days, I realized I had to “come off the mountaintop” and back to the valley of life.
I reluctantly packed my bags, yet am excited about the new opportunities for the upcoming month. The weather forecast stated sunny skies, yet cautioning the listener to beware of road debris from an overnight coastal wind storm. Based on that information, I decided to return home using the interstate highways versus the tree-lined scenic route.
I put on my baseball cap, grabbed my sunglasses, placed my two dogs in the car, loaded the luggage, then said a prayer before pulling out of the parking lot.
Within 20 minutes I was on the sunny interstate cruising at 60 miles per hour with the GPS quoting an ETA of four hours. Thirty miles into the trip in my rearview mirror I notice a car bobbing and weaving in the distance at an accelerated rate. I kept driving, yet again it’s erratic movements captured my attention.
How do you feel when you see that type of activity in your rearview mirror? I wondered, where is the driver going? why are they going so fast? Is anyone in the vehicle in distress?
The driver continued the accelerated pace now within a few cars of my vehicle. I watched cars quickly move out of the way for the aggressive driver, I heard others beep their horn and I watched expressions of panic arise on the faces of nearby drivers. In the rear mirror it appeared as a “Buggs Bunny” cartoon—“ excuse me, pardon me, excuse, pardon me” as people are rudely pushed out of the way!
The big question—what am I going to do as that vehicle surely yet rapidly began approaching my lane?
I chose to maintain my speed, yet graciously move to the next lane so the vehicle could continue its merciless reign of road mayhem!
The car breezed past my SUV so abruptly, I could feel it’s wind draft. It sped off into the distance with the same bobbing and weaving pattern nudging other cars out of the way.
The interesting point of the scenario is 2 hours later we bought got off at the same exit!
I was driving at the regular speed, while the “speed demon” was frantically racing through cars to get the SAME destination!
I was enjoying the drive, while the other driver WASTED UNNECESSARY ENERGY to get the same results!
It reminded me of this passage…
Fact: Diamonds Are Made Under PRESSURE!
How many times have we RACED ahead in life with our impatience?
How many times have we pushed people out of the way to achieve our desired goal?
Why do we think we will get there faster using these tactics?
How many times have I forgotten what God has ALREADY done for me, yet I can STILL run ahead and jump into a matter without consulting Him?
How many times have we responded to our timing versus God’s perfect timing and divine will?
How many times have we aggressively raced ahead…WASTED ENERGY…only to find out selves in the same spot as everyone else that took the scenic route?
I want to encourage you as I was reminded while driving the final miles home—TRUST God, allow PATIENCE to do its work in the matter, God took care of things for you in the past, He can AND will certainly do it again!
May we wait for His counsel and guidance to unfold. Trust Him, His timing and way are…PERFECT!
He’s an ON-TIME God, no worries…YOU won’t be late…and the others around you will now enjoy the journey too!
You’re God’s GEM!
Love, Michele
